interconnection problem of netgear WNR2000 router with BSNL ADSL modem

My sister here in Calcutta has broadband service with BSNL. I got her a Netgear WNR2000 router and tried to set up a WiFi connection. I used the Netgear CD to go through the installation. The problem that I am facing is that the internet connection does not stay up. It keeps on dropping and many times even after powering back the modem and the router I cannot get the internet connection. I use the same router in the USA with my Cablevision Internet service and the router is rock stable. I do not understand why it does not work here in the USA. Is there something special I have to do to make it to work? A step-by step guidance would be of great help. I would like to make the router work before I leave for the USA in a week.

In modem;

Connect in PPPoE mode ( Id/PW stored in modem wan page)
Enable DHCP range say 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.10
SAVE Reboot wait for 2 minutes.
Ensure connected to inetrnet and surf web pages directly.

Say No. same settings.

give new Ip address for netgear say 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1
(c) Wireless settings Channel 11 in india.
