    Talking always choose the best

    speedtest dot net
This is useful one if you have speeds over 1mbps

speedtester dot bsnl dot co dot in
This is the most accurate speed tester by bsnl for bsnl

There are 2 options, one if you are worried bout using too much data in case you have a low download limit, and the other in case you have no restrictions.

This is by far the most accurate tester for bsnl

sorry bout the dot stuff... cant post web links as i have below 50 posts....

I used BSNL speedtester earlier. It returns very high speed even if my actual experience in surfing the web is otherwise.

well for bsnl that is the best link to test your speeds..
and if so there are 2 possibilities.

    1. you have a high speed connection, and by default either your antivirus or some other download is slowing down you internet surfing speed.
    2. you have exceeded your usage and you are back to your standard speed, thought the initial speeds were higher.

you could check on the selfcare website
    selfcare(dot)wdc(dot)bsnl(dot)co(dot)in/irj/portal

Well if by default antivirus programs and other dowload slows down the system. that should be present while testing the speeds. And the speed test should show the same reduced speed. But, this tester show 1.99mbps even thou all the other constrains are present.
The mechanism, as far i know, is to upload a fixed sets of data and also to download the same. If the constrains are present then the speed cannot be shown so high. So, the doubt arises.

I am not using unlimited connections so exceed usage and being able to use at a lower speed doesnot apply for me. My connection BSNL 500 combo with 1.5 gb at 1.2Mbps. I never get speed above 50% of it at some times and get a speed of 100-250kbps most of the time and that too is fluctuating in rapidly even when I just started to use my initial monthly quota.

The Sefcare portal at Kolkta is shabby looking with 90% of the facility of the portal inactivated.

Hope this explains my plight and also inaccurracy of the speedtester mentioned by you.

    Default Internet Speed

You can check the internet Uploading and Downloading speed at Ip-details.com/internet-speed-test
You can check results in Mbps and also MBps Measurement.

    Note:
Usually you can't check internet speed accurately. The speed differ from time, day ,plan .If more user access the same connection at same time traffic will occurs so your internet speed get slow.
