    Default 10KB/sec used to be great speed once upon a time

    I just came across an old post that I made back in the days and laughed for a good 10 mins.

    I am sure you would find it funny too : http://reliance-datacard.blogspot.in...ce-review.html

    I was using a Reliance data card those days and 10KB/s was an acceptable speed.

    It gave me laugh as well, but even made me think that our country has advanced and developed since 2007.. From 10KB to 9.8mbps or even higher are available today

    Why is it that slow Ranjit? Is is bad signals or just bad network? I had an impression that Idea 3G network is supposed to be good but your post suggests otherwise.

    I have been using Reliance CDMA since 2003. The data speeds were around 12-15 KB/s on 1x. Even today, most of the time I keep my mobile on 1x which is good enough for receiving whatsapp/line/viber messages and email headers and only switch to EVDO for large downloads.

    @panchabhut
    I do the same when I am away from home I switch to edge so I won't use too much battery and data. I use wifi at home and work to save on mobile data.I have been with Admin for holidays a few times and he uses MTNL 3G in a WiFi dongle along with a Vodafone WiFi dongle for places where there is no BSNL signal (MTNL works on bsnl network when outside Delhi). He uses it for work so he has to spend that money but for me I am happy with Edge while away from home and only use 3G when I really need it.

    Internet speed as certainly advanced massively in recent years and I remember when dial up internet was considered advanced.

    While some ISP's still offer a dial up service believe it or not, I'm not sure that any website will be able to function properly these days with that slow of a connection.

    I also use an Idea 3G broadband service and getting a very low speed. But I think this is because of the low connectivity in my area. Whenever I am in a city or good reception area It has good speed. We don't have any Idel towers nearby, but I heard that BSNL has already setup a tower and Idea may use it on shared basis. That would be a dream come true for me.

    My neighbors are using BSNL broadband (Landline) and they are quite satisfied with their service. Earlier there were frequent disconnections, but nowadays it has improved a lot. I was planning to take a BSNL connection, but now changed my mind as BSNL has already setup a tower and Idea may also use it. I am just waiting for a few more weeks to take a final call.
