Default So have you guys seen Man of Steel?

What do you think about it? Directed by Zack Snyder and Produced by Christopher Nolan and written by David S. Goyer. Did it live up to your expectations?

    Warning: Some spoilers.

I saw it yesterday. This is my opinion "Man of Steel = Debris".

It is totally an un-superman man. The first half was fairly OK. But the 2nd half was all mayhem, destruction, obliteration, chaos. Too much CGI, special effects, etc. It is a complete deviation from the comic strip:

    - Superman at last learns to wear the underwear the right way, i.e., inside rather than outside
    - Superman is supposed to save the world from destruction and loss of life; this he did but I shudder at the body count
    - Superman is meant for the kids; this one is aiming the adults
    - Lois Lane is not supposed to know who superman is till much-much later

And finally, no Superman movie/comic can be complete without Lex Luther. Where were you Lex?

@just4kix If you still think that superhero movies are only meant for kids then I would say "grow up". I love this thing about Nolan that instead of showing the superheroes as Gods he highlights them as a human being. The inner turmoil and the sacrifices they have to make to become a superhero. Though according to me it is still not The Dark Knight but it's the best Superman movie till date. Not because of the action and CGI but due to the fact that this time superman had a worthy opponent who could match him not kryptonite. Anyways it's an origin story and every director wants to tell it his/her own way. What are you supposed to do when all your life you are trying to hide the fact that you are an alien with superpowers.?Then one day you are forced to come out and face an enemy stronger than you and who would stop at nothing to kill you. You are not born a superhero. You become one. As for Lois Lane I hated her. And I think the costume was cool. There is word going about two Easter eggs in the movie. 1.) The logo of Lex Corp. (I noticed it.) 2.) Logo of Wayne Enterprise (Will have to watch the movie again)

First of all I didn't say that superhero movies should be meant for kids. I said that "Superman" is primarily a kids' hero and should remain as such. Secondly, I am not sure whether you have watched the earlier Superman movies (starring Christopher Reeve). In Superman 2, the same trio of villains (General Zod, et al) make way to the earth and Superman has to fight them all and defeat them - so there was hardly anything original. Thirdly, in Superman 3, Superman is seen fighting a super advanced intelligent computer which has become self-aware and Superman is nearly killed and at his wits end to defeat it. So, it is not as if that Superman has to fight ordinary enemies in previous editions. Finally, if you are indicating that Lex Luther is not an ample and capable adversery to Superman, then I beg to differ strongly.

However, you have your likes and choices. You liked the movie and I respect that. But I am very much old school in terms of sticking to the original themes and plots. That is one of the reasons I very much liked The Amazing Spiderman because it showed Spiderman very much to the original including showing Gwen Stacy as the original girl friend (much unlike the previous edition that introduced Gwen after Mary Jane Watson). Sure, the director can take some liberties and change some bits and pieces but not at the cost of the basic theme and history of events. That is where, the disslosure of Superman's identity (to Lois) strikes me against. Whether one liked this Lois Lane or previous one, or this Superman (and his costume) or the previous one, is completely besides the point.

It was my first movie at the cinema after The Hobbit and I was looking forward to good enjoyment. There are many who may have enjoyed it and the box office will conclude the final word. I was not at all impressed with the movie, that's all.

Yes I agree with you. Everybody can have his/her opinion. Just wanted to post mine. And I am not saying Lex Luther is not a worthy opponent. I will be murdered in my bed if I say that. :P This was also the first movie for me after The Hobbit.

Anyways Zack Snyder will be directing Justice League.

I didn't enjoy Man of Steel that much.

    There are two reasons:

    1. I like going to theaters with my wife or friends. This time I had to go alone because my wife backed out at the last moment - she is apparently fed up of all the "Man" movies. (Read superhero movies)

    2. Everytime I come out of the theaters after watching a superhero movie, I feel a rush of adrenalin inside. This time it was missing. The action scenes were like a repeat from the movies like Avengers, Ironman and Hulk, etc.

I have seen Man of Steel and Henry Cavill did a pretty good job portraying Superman. In fact, I find it better than the previous Superman with Brandon Routh. Man of Steel even grossed higher.
